HARRIET M. HAWES, age 84 of Wheatland Township, Hillsdale County, MI, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at her home.
She was born on February 22, 1928 in Addison, Michigan to Martin and Catherine A. (Tuttle) Ruoff. She is survived by her husband, LaVern C. Hawes, whom she married on January 13, 1945 in Wauseon, Ohio. Harriet lived her early life in the Rollin Township-Addison area before moving to Wheatland Township in 1952. She graduated from Addison High School in 1945. She was formerly employed at W. T. Grant in Adrian for 10 years then worked at Addison Products for 25 years, retiring in 1990. She enjoyed crocheting, antiques, working at auctions, and spending time with her husband and family.
Surviving besides her husband LaVern are two sons: Calvin L. (Wendy) Hawes of Addison, Gregory A. (Cathy) Hawes of Jackson; two daughters: Barbara Jo (Lambert) Hiram of Jackson, Penny K. (Kelly) Galloup of Ennis, Montana; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one sister: Joyce (Harry) Schilling of Addison; two sisters- in-law: Doris Hawes of Manitou Beach, Margaret Ruoff of Kalamazoo; nephews; nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison with Rev. Clyde L. Wonders officiating. Burial will take place in Church's Corners Cemetery, Wheatland Township, Hillsdale County, MI. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Tuesday and from 10:00 am -11:00 am on Wednesday prior to the funeral service.
