BASIL V. ROCKWELL, age 92 of Onsted, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at his home. He was born on February 22, 1920 in Rome Township, Lenawee County, Michigan, the son of Pearl Edward and Vera (Powell) Rockwell. Basil married Florence E. Salisbury on December 4, 1945 at the Cadmus Presbyterian Church. She preceded him in death on December 25, 2001. He was a veteran in the United States Army, serving during World War II. Basil drove a milk route, for City Cartage and Dundee Freight, retiring in 1973. He enjoyed delivering flowers for several years for DuBois Flowers. Basil enjoyed watching ballgames, fishing, jigsaw puzzles and gardening. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Durkee-Seager Post #550, Rome Grange and Odd Fellows.
Basil is survived by four children, JoAnne (Patrick Harris of Adrian, David (Mary Ann) Rockwell and Janice (Timothy) Turnwald all of Onsted and Jill (Martin) Klocke of Grand Rapids, eight grandchildren and numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren, one sisters, Wanda Conklin of Adrian and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral Services for Basil will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Gateway Community Church in Onsted with Pastor Tom McMichael and Chaplin, Jim Yeutter officiating. Interment will follow at East Rome Cemetery in Rome Township, Lenawee County, Michigan with Full Military Honors conducted by American Legion Durkee-Seager Post #550. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 14, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted. Memorials are suggested to Cambridge Township Fire Department or Hospice of Lenawee County or the American Legion Durkee-Seager Post #550. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
