Obituary
June Ruby Joanette went to be with her Lord on July 10, 2012. June was born on February 21, 1925 in west Frankfort, Illinois to parents Ruby and Samuel Maguire. In 1927 June moved to Michigan with her family. She worked as a telegraph operator during World War II, a medical assistant for many years and served as a librarian for the Brooklyn Public Library. In 1973, she and her husband Joseph moved to Brooklyn (Lake Columbia). They spent many joyful years by the lake and felt very blessed for the years of retirement they shared together. June was a member of Heart O' the Lakes United Brethren Church upon her death and was a former member of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church. She was always ready to assist those in need in the community. June and Joseph were always together volunteering in the community including leadership in the Columbia Central High School Band Boosters, The Jackson Department of Social Services Adopt a Grandparent Program, a founding volunteer of the Columbia Community Food Pantry, as well as appearing as "Mr. and Mrs. Yuck" that taught elementary-aged students about the dangers of household poisons. As a member of the Heart O' the Lakes Spiritual Care Outreach Committee, she was known as the "card lady" – sending out countless get well and congratulations via written communications to members of the congregation. June is survived by her sisters Lona (Michael) Kozar and Cassander (Gerald) Hoffman, daughter Jan (Robert) VerMeulen, son Samuel (Linda) Joanette, son John Joanette (partner Dwain Underwood), grandson Scott VerMeulen, granddaughter June (John) Allar, great-granddaughter River Allar, great-grandson Michael Bekkering and many other nieces and nephews.
